On Being A Big Ugly Beast Sometimes

Carnelian's a corrupted gem. She's able to reclaim her humanoid form, but keeping it can be a challenge. Whenever her emotions run too high, be they positive or negative, the corruption attempts to emerge again. Without regaining control of herself and her emotions she can revert entirely to the hulking quadrupedal dog-monster all her type become. In this shape she keeps her tremendous strength and durability, but her intelligence is vastly reduced; she's capable of understanding and following simple speech and commands, and can with effort return it, she can recognize allies, but anything not an ally is an enemy to be attacked and driven away. Gem technology doesn't like working for her, and warp pads are impassable until she calms down enough to revert to humanoid form ... and even then it's frequently glitchy. Calming down in of itself can be difficult as corrupted monsters are touchy and temperamental, and she's no exception.
